The concept for this project is to create a methodology for music production and workflow that allows for the creation of an interactive way of performing live electronic music.

Specifically using Ableton Live 11 Suite (Ableton Live | Ableton, 2019) I will explore different methods of planning and working that encourage controlled Aleatoric and Generative techniques, to deliberately create performance situations where the performer is forced to interact with the music, or trigger an element that sets in motion another event; thereby creating a performance system that works as a wholly ‘organic’ entity to give a ‘live’ performance: this will be rendered as a bespoke Ableton Live set template (Gateway, 2019) which will contain all created devices, instruments, workflows and settings.

This project will conclude with a live performance that will demonstrate the performance techniques developed in this project and because the chosen genre of music, Chicago Footwork, is entwined with its associated dance style I will also be exploring and collaborating on a dance performance that will feature in this; and go some way to illustrate how live music and dance can interact with each other through a process of improvisational dramaturgy.
